I received in my email today a note from photographer and Bear Frank Muzzy about the passing of Ron Henderson, the owner of Pulp. It’s a shame to hear he’s died so young. While winning a battle with HIV, cancer took him. In an article in the Washington Blade in November, 2004, Henderson was quoted as saying that he started Pulp partly because “gift and card shops have been owned by gay men. Sadly,” he said, ” a lot of them died prematurely.” Ron was also selected the “Best of Gay DC” Local Businessperson by Blade editors in 2004.
I didn’t know Ron, though I certainly recognize his face and of course love shopping at Pulp. It’s more than a store. It feels part of the community. Undoubtedly, Ron’s love for the community shines through the shop he created. He will be missed.
I made a quick call to Pulp. They will be planning a community memorial for Ron. Please keep an eye on their website for information.

I am so sad to hear this news. Pulp on the Hill was a part of my daily life before I left DC in 2006. Ron was such a warm, genuine and fun person. He and his staff were like an extended family and he truly set the tone in the store.
I will keep his family and those who loved him in my prayers!
The public memorial for Ron has be scheduled at PULP for Friday, March 6, at 7 PM.
